What is the best way to clean a wild turkey?
I am new to turkey hunting, and once you finally kill the turkey what is the best way to clean the bird and remove the feathers, etc?
Depends on how you cook. Leaves skin prefer if I'm going to cook or fry. So the answer above is correct. I am very poor hot water to loosen the bird plucking the feathers. It depends on how you intend to cook it.
I prefer to leave the skin on if I'm going to bake it or fry it. So the previous answer is correct. I poor VERY hot water over the bird to loosen up the feathers for plucking. Then I use a butane torch to singe away the pin feathers. Move quickly if you do this as the skin will pucker and split if you stay in one place to long.
If I'm going to turn the breast into "chicken fingers" then I skin the entire bird. This is by far the easiest thing to do. I use the drumsticks, thighs and wings for boiling into turkey broth for turkey noodles.
