The Nigerian civil war and the factors that made war inevitable

Background

The Nigerian Civil War also known in history that the war in Biafra in Nigeria began July 6, 1967, ended January 13, 1970, following the declaration of the Republic of Biafra by the former region eastern Nigeria May 30, 1967. The civil war in Nigeria is now a major political issue in the history of Nigeria. In countries where it attaches so much importance to history and development of many investigations have been written about these unpleasant situations, in a sense will go a long way in prevention and prevention of future events in these nations.

Important players like Alexander A. Madiebo Olusegun Obasanjo, Ojaiku Chief Uche Jim, Michael A. Draper, Jan Zumbach and only recently Obong (Gn) Philip Effiong titled "Nigeria and Biafra: My Story (posthumously presented March 31, 2005) and others that the nation and the world awaiting other stories and publications of General Yakubu Gowon and (Gen) Odimegwu Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, the two main players in the conduct of the war in which the belligerents lost about 3 million souls.

This was expected, do not inhabit the article on the events during the war that lasted three years, but after a recognized principle that war was avoidable try to assert that various positive presentation of information, and then, and explain why he lost Biafra war.

Causes

In a story like this is always related to recall briefly the reasons why such events took place in the first example because it is a known fact in history that nothing happens by accident because some factors that have contributed. Let briefly describe why or what still might be called the cause of the Biafran war in Nigeria.

All the factors responsible for the appearance This war is not completely unique and different from other African countries and therefore can be considered as much of the history, politics, ethnic, economic and religious. British policy and the activities responsible for the creation hasty and random Nigeria for their own good and profit is the main reason for the outbreak of war. It seems that the British rushed to different ethnic groups of more than 250 and has done in other to get more resources for British people overseas and the ground much to the neglect of the same nation (Nigeria) is not worth even the government of Nigeria of today can not say exactly how many ethnic groups made currently exist. All we hear the government is "more than 250 ethnic groups"

The British ignored the fact that what existed before arrival were the number of independent entities hostile to each other with many differences in language, race, tribe, religion and social beliefs and many others.

These people have been very different groups with the customs, culture and values quite different from each other. There were also serious problems population pressure is to help these people in a fairly distinguish in many ways. Economically too, the British did not put in a soil prepared to help the new financial arrangements to take off political entity, even worse, the discovery of oil in the Niger Delta region today and in the Region Eastern also said that among the reasons prompting the former eastern hurry to declare war alleged best avoided or delayed. The British seem to be North for what I consider sympathy because the British were obviously no clear reason for it.

Almost all the tribes met by the British under the political entity called Nigeria at one time or another expressed their rejection of the union forced the federal government in one way or the other development will continue even after independence. First, the North itself has estimated that the region was ripe for impedance for a number of reasons. Between 1962 and 1965, the Tiv riots against the North. It was the crisis caused by the 1964 elections, said to be defective, the crisis of the Census, the western region of crisis, and the coup of 1966 and the coup against which all represented a tribe that was strange to each other because there was no agreement between them before the existence of the federal structure implied.

In my opinion, the blow in 1966 a coup was never a thought Igbo, but can be likened to a series of movements that have taken place in this country called Nigeria, but the North has been nursing the ambition to secede from the nation's federal structure and is believed to fear and nothing could have made to soften its position showed reluctance to opt for independence with the rest of the nation, the fear of marginalization. As the story later justify all the shots of others, without exception, were directed and executed by the North. As someone pointed out, "The Federation was sick at birth and in January 1966, the sick, bedridden daughter collapsed. "The coup hastened the collapse of the Nigerian federation in haste.

The North is used only when the general cynical Ironsi Aguyui showed sympathy for the coup, or perhaps later, historians have noted that I did not know what to do with them after all, the first time to attract more in the soil of Nigeria and Nigerians. The North has shown that the resentment that led to pogroms in which many of the Igbo have been attacked and killed early May 1966 that he never saw an end, even when General Yakubu Gowon, who emerged as the nation's leading keeps promising the world that arrangements were in place or brought the matter to a minimum.

Gen Gowon highest military commander of the extraction North, who was in a coup against all the evidence clearly showed a vengeance by historians, including Igbo are quick to point out that he had no plans or agenda for the nation which has accelerated the chaos, confusion, murder, and the plight that people were alarmed. Their implementation of the recommendations on August 13, 1966 has not brought peace.

How avoided war

Although many historians insist that war was inevitable and beyond Yakubu Gowon, Nigeria I think civil war was a war that could have been avoided if certain factors have been established for this purpose.

On the one hand, a more political leader, honest, diplomatic and national level have prevented the war is inevitable Yakubu Gowon. If Yakubu Gowon clear agenda had seized the government and the sympathy of the nation, would have prevented the war, but from what I have highlighted in this work, the initial attitude of Gowon showed nothing more than revenge and ambition to succeed even if the North then had a change of mind for reasons not yet revealed by him, but I suspect the discovery of oil.

Walter Schwarz believes that "Ojukwu got his way with little effort, the most skillful" In other words, if Ojukwu was the only one who did not take long to understand what it meant sovereignty or other people in the region realized too late. A. Mayor Abubakar Atofarati in seeking to understand is that variants of what happened Aburi Summit in Ghana in the east region in which Biafra Ojukwu accused the government of bad faith and go back on promises Nigeria Gowon and Ojukwu accused of distortion and half truth "in a way helped also helped to make war inevitable. This was to confuse the international community on what the situation was and how to contribute to ending the war more.

Ojukwu demonstrated the idea perhaps as Senior Gowon if he could not rule out an entity independent policy called Nigeria, which could very well to break and pay a part of what both Gowon and Ojukwu challenging series of interventions by eminent personalities like General Ankrah, then Ethiopian emperor, Martin Luther King, among others.

In the first case, the Igbo, instead of letting the July 1966 coup to win field must have the audacity to challenge the principle that the development would have sent signals to the north and the Igbo were prepared for possible consequences. This idea Madiebo is shared with Alexander in his book, Revolution of Nigeria and the Biafran civil war, but as some historians have been subsequently eastern Igbo, then had a false security in one of them, General Ironsi Aguyui

Conclusion

The war has been conducted in order to unify the country has come and gone, but I learned many lessons, which should lead us as one nation, indivisible love for all, equality so that past mistakes should be clearly avoided by the country to constructively find programs that lead to the nation as a whole a frog much more expensive in the world's most developed countries such as I learned a bitter lesson in a way.
