New modes….they have all the modes from 09 I believe plus
Title mode, you pick between 8 10 or 12 fights and then you fight your way to the end with each fight getting harder and harder. Even on begginer the champ is way above experienced. Think arcade mode from other fighters
Tittle Defense mode, this is more like survival. You fight 12 people who get harder and harder but your body only recovers so much between fights. So if you have a hard fight you don't go into the next at 100%.
You can set up tournaments, not sure if that was in 09
The stand up was improved, they added swaying which allows you to dodge and then launch a counter punch. You take more damage though if your hit while swaying usually. Such as ducking into a upper cut or body kick or leaning foward to dodge a straight but instead eating a kick or hook.
Ground has more transitions and you can now adjust your posture to hit different positions from each transition. Easy example is full mount, when you break free from there grip your still laying on them and tossing elbows and small strikes. Leaning back sits you up for heavy shots. You can also knock people out from more positions now. KO's from side control, sprawl, back mount, back side controle, half gaurd…..same options as before with just a few more added. New Crusifix position is very nice.
Submissions, mostly the same but instead of having the option of spinning the sticks or button mashing to get out you have to do stick spins only now. Hell thats for takedowns aswell. You can also switch from 1 sub to another if your fighter knows how. Very nice little trick online as you can tire them out while going for one move and then go straight to another and then apply preassure. New people never know how to deal with this it seems.
Clinch know works mostly off of transitions and those killer knees and Uppers are easier to get around which is nice. You can also clinch against the cage now which is a nice touch
Actually the cage is very helpful now. If your on your back you can use it to reverse the transition by walking along it and rolling yourself. Cage moves are a nice addition.
Career mode is 12 years instead of 7 and its more streamlined. Its more enjoyable and you will actually do interviews after titles defenses and big fights like in real life. You can do weigh ins if you want and before your big matches they do the little promos where you and your opponent talk about each other. CAF is more indepth and you can make better looking people with more options.
Styles are gone, now you pick and choose your moves allowing for more freedom and more unique feeling fighters. Now not all boxers feel alike as they will have there own punches and you can mix judo with slams and are not limited to just 1 kind of stand up or ground style.
Online….its more of the same for the most part. Its no better but I never felt it was unplayable. They did add fight camps this year. Think clans, you can get up to 40 people in them and train with each other. You will fight for that camp in ranked and have there banner behind your fighter. Your camp collects points on your wins. Very neat feature
ALso ps3 has 3 exclusive fighters, Dan “The Beast” Severn, Royce Gracie, and Jens Pulver. It also has 5 more matches in the objective based mode aswell as 5 HD fights on the disk. GSP vs BJ 2, Griffin vs Bonnar, Evans vs Lyoto and 2 others i can't recall. Xbox has better graphics, if you have both that may help your decision out some.
