Some of what you can do will depend on how much you want to invest. You can use firing strips and styrofoam to apply to the common wall between the two rooms. You can either glue or nail the firing strips in place and then glue the styrofoam to the wall. Some people use 1" thick styrofoam while others who want more noise isolation will use 2". Whatever thickness of styrofoam you select is how thick the firing strips need to be. Once you have the styrofoam and firing strips in place you will need to cover all of this with a new layer of sheetrock (drywall) making sure your attachments for the sheetrock go into the firing strips. Once the sheetrock is in place you can finish the wall and then paint or paper it as you choose. This additional layer will provide additional sound protection that is often lacking with the hollow walls that often separate apartments. If this appears to be more involved than what you want to undertake then you could also hang a tapestry on the wall to help absorb some of the ambient noise that is filtering through the wall.
