XIII (thirteen) is a Franco Belgian comics series written and illustrated by Belgian Jean Van Hamme and William Vance revolves around a character suffering from amnesia who tries to discover his hidden past. With its plot inspired by the book of Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Identity [1] XIII and was originally published in Spirou in 1984, and was later published by Dargaud. In 2003, the story of the first five volumes was adapted into a video game, also titled XIII, published across multiple platforms. A television series starring Val Kilmer and Stephen Dorff XIII was published in 2008.

Only the first three volumes have been translated into English in the first in 1989 by Catalan Communications. In 2005, Alias Comics started publishing a comic book published monthly for a U.S. audience, but stopped after five issues. In 2007, Dabel Brothers Productions in association with Marvel Comics has released an uncensored XIII Volume 1 TP collect the first three albums, and before that line No 6 Released for free. [2] The titles below are English translations of the original securities, and may change for the real album, as long as released in English.

XIII chronicles the adventures of a man nicknamed "XIII" with memory loss who is in search of his past, and a group of his friends try to unravel the mystery of his identity, which is involved in conspiracies, secrets, and the murderers are killing.

The series begins with a man stranded on a shore of the bay peacock on the East Coast United States, suffering from amnesia, and only tattoo "XIII" on his collarbone to link to its past. Volumes four fifty-nine versus "XIII" in search of his identity and his past, confront the "conspiracy of the century", which is a blow to the U.S. State. They form a closed story arc, putting end to the destruction of the "XX."

In the first volume, XIII washes ashore and is chased by murderers, for reasons unknown to him. It managed to elude them and collect a photograph of himself with a woman, developed by a photographic studio in the city of Eastown. Eastown leaves league, where is identified with the woman in the photo of Kim Rowland, widow of U.S. Army Captain Steve Rowland. Go to the direction of Kim Rowland, XIII is a hidden message left saying Kim someone nicknamed "Mongoose" has found its mark and wait XIII "where's the Indian." Once again chased by murderers, XIII is saved by Colonel Amos, a government agent investigating the murder of United States President William Sheridan. Colonel Amos has a video showing killing the president XIII is as safe and caught the murderer, but still unaware of his true identity. XIII escapes, and his race, faces the mongoose, the head hunting the murderers XIII.

In the second search volume XIII in the case of Kim Rowland led to his capture by the army of General Carrington, who identified himself as Steve Rowland XIII, husband Kim Rowland and former member of a special operations unit called SPADs (Special Assault and destruction of the sections) Carrington has created and controlled when Rowland was died in a helicopter crash two years ago. "Rowland" returned to his home, using Southbourg Carrington, Lieutenant Jones. While his father, Jeremy Rowland, a wealthy landowner Earth, and other parents expressed no doubts about his identity, XIII regrets not find Kim there. Amos comes to the meeting and XIII still has him as their prime suspect that his fingerprints were found on the sniper rifle that fired the President Sheridan. XIII finally manages to find "where is the Indian, but is deceived by Jeremie Rowland Felicity Young. Felicity kills Jeremie Rowland and Uncle Steve, Matt, with the participation XIII for the murders to inherit the fortune of Jeremy. However XIII escapes police to assist Lt. Carrington and Jones, and met with Kim in hiding. Kim says that she is tattooed as well, so the tattoo number XVII, XIII does not know his real name is actually Steve Rowland. Kim disappeared XIII is arrested by the police, tried and found guilty of the murder of the Rowlands, and sentenced to the maximum security prison.

Carrington, provide information in a twenty people, one of them, a Ross Tanner, has been missing for two years. Amos XIII decided to leave the prison to have on hand and it is interrupted amnesia. The treatment fails and the mongoose is killing XIII in prison. To escape the murderer mongoose, XIII an escape attempt that, but Carrington and Jones put hand in small groups XIII.

Volume Four begins by Colonel Amos conclusion that Carrington Tanner has invented identity and suspected of being part of the conspiracy to assassinate President Sheridan. XIII, under the name of Ross Tanner, was hidden by SPADs Carrington training center in the fictional country of San Miguel. Sheridan XIII help infiltrate the military operations center, and the President manage to Galbrain put an end to the conspiracy at the last minute. The entire plot, with the exception of the famous Number I, has been killed or captured. Walter Sheridan was elected president. Kim Rowland is still missing for unknown reasons. At the end of the story arc XIII believes he found his identity as old Jason Fly, and is willing to continue his life normal, but their memories have not been reinstated.

In the following volumes XIII resumed his research on past. Volumes Six and Seven of Greenfalls XIII, a city snow in the Rocky Mountains, where the story revolves around the fate of his father in 1950 McCarthian. XIII learns that his father, Jonathan Fly, has been killed by the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan, after discovering the true identity of Mac Lane Jonathan Fly was a "red" journalist who had to flee after suffering under McCarthy's witch hunt. The mongoose tracks XIII even with the blessing of the murderers Jonathan MacLane, but escapes XIII manhunt, to obtain justice for the murder of his father and succeeded in halting the Mongoose, who reveals that he was shipping the number when he shot the bullet that was amnestic XIII, but no information on number I. The story ends with a good idea that has finally found his true identity as Jason Mac Lane.

In volume eight, XIII is introduced by President Sheridan to become a special agent, charged with holding the number still at large I. The mongoose is subtracted from the guard. XIII stalking Kim Rowland, guessing that hides because he knows the identity of I. No. He discovers that a boat near where he was found amnesiac Walter Sheridan yacht. Meanwhile, Jones investigated further and discovered that Kim Rowland had an affair with Sheridan and had a son with him. In the following volumes of the action takes place in and around the Costa Verde, a small imaginary country in Central America, where XIII is made to believe that he once led to the revolution under the identity of "The breakers", while The breakers are supposed to be dead. XIII is involved with the revolutionary Maria de los Santos, who claims have been his wife. During episode 10, after his release from prison where he was awaiting execution, her husband confirmed.

During the Revolution XIII met Irish-American expatriate Mullway Sean, who claims to be the true father of XIII. However, it also confirms the identity of Jason Lane XIII Mac Ireland's history is revealed and XIII XIII learns that his mother was the sister of Giordino, who accidentally killed. The Giordino proved to be a mafia family. At the end of Volume XIII was offered an amnesty by the U.S. ambassador, who said the aid is necessary XIII: Carrington has apparently lost his mind.

In twelve volumes XIII Corruption U.S. President Sheridan is kidnapped by General Carrington, who has learned that Sheridan has ordered the death of his daughter Kim. Amos and Carrington XIII and Jones enter the mongoose to obtain additional evidence against Sheridan. In a TV show "trial" Sheridan reveals the American public that the conspirator XIII and the mongoose to testify. Following the event NSA Director Giordino accidentally kills Sheridan Sheridan then killed the mongoose.

Volume thirteen (XIII) is a particular issue, where two journalists retrace the first twelve numbers Clarifying and extending the timeline.

While in exile in Costa Verde, XIII and his father decided to try Mullway to find a treasure hidden somewhere in Mexico for their ancestors. Giordino, For its part, the evidence reveals manufactures XIII, Seamus O'Neill, an operator IRA was formed under Fidel Castro. eighteenth and nineteenth volumes are the latest albums written by Van Hamme. The volume of eighteen Irish version was designed by Jean Giraud, known as Moebius. [3] figures as a story within a story, and refers as part of the plot in nineteen volumes of The Last Round. This story is the prequel to the original story arc, and has solved all the mysteries surrounding the identity of XIII.

For the first time in 1984, serialized in the popular Belgian magazine Spirou, XIII was successful instant Spirou readers. The first three episodes have been published in a single bound volume Dargaud the same year, a trend to frequently asked questions later. At the time of the eighth edition, a Thirteen cons, Hardcover sales had reached 140,000 copies, and the publisher belatedly realized who had a bestseller on his hands. Promotion began, including a special drawing for the French national lottery in 2000 with 1.5 million entries and a prize of € 13 000 Grand.

Also published in Spirou was the detective series of soda in a city of New York. An adventure published in 1999, salt only God (only God knows), also have the character to lose his memory, but not for long. References the number "13" and other serial connections appear throughout history.

The black cat manga, published in 2000, has many similarities the XIII. The main character, train Heartnet, is known as Chronos Number XIII in his work as a sweeper or a murderer. Rail fails a mission to identity-like fashion from Bourne, the conflict winds Cronos, and must stop a vast conspiracy.

French Initially, XIII was simultaneously translated into Dutch, and translations into other languages like German, Polish and Italy shortly afterwards.

• In 1989, XIII was first published in English XIII Code, but after the first three volumes, published in 1990 ended when the publisher (Catalan / ComCat) closed its doors.
• In 2005, Alias Comics started to publish the title of a comic book series of 32 pages per month to an American audience. Five questions been released, but was 6 # "canceled by the editor "in February 2006. [4] Each item included half album.

• In 2006, the Dabel Brothers Productions series. They published online # 6 for free, and the first volume of 144 pages published February 7, 2007, Marvel Comics, reprinting the first three discs.

• Cinebook were selected to release the entire series in English, and plans to publish the total of 19 pounds at a rate of one every two months, since August 2010. [5]

• In 1988, XIII was first published in Portugal Meribérica-Liber. The first three volumes were published over a period of two years, and the series returns in 1997 with the fourth album after a hiatus of seven years. Published Meribérica the first nine albums until they went bankrupt in 2004.
• In 1990, the Portuguese newspaper Public (Portugal) has started XIII published in Sunday supplement "Public Junior '. Finally, the first 3 books were published in this way before" Public Junior "was deleted in 1992.
• In 2006, XIII is published in Brazil by Panini Comics. [Panini 6] Releases XIII, a monthly series with two episodes in each issue. Previously available in Brazil were published in both the Portuguese by Meribérica-Liber.

Jean Van Hamme, said he will continue writing the series, but William Vance is interested in continuing with another writer. Yves Sente, which has supported the writing Thorgal Van Hamme, is interested in continuing the series. He was contacted by William Vance and said he had to propose a story Van Hamme, but no agreement has been reached yet [9].
