Removing the cover (not a lot of collateral), is the hole you are looking for is a bit larger than a clip. This is the manual eject hole, but you will not see it unless the cover is off. Just click a clip in the hole and the tray opens. Good luck

From the main screen, click on the Media icon
Click on the menu button
Click Explore
Find the folder your photos are in
Click on the menu button again
Select "Show Hidden"
From there, you will see all of your pics – the hidden ones grayed out. You just need to click on the grayed out photo name and you should be able to access your pics.

Ok, I've gotten the E74 message twice in my life on two different xbox 360s. A year ago, with the first xbox, I did all of the things you did and even more (I even tried that wet wash cloth trick from youtube) and nothing worked–I still got the E74 message. Basically, I had to register my xbox on xbox.com and request that it be repaired my Microsoft. They mailed me an empty box, I shipped my dead xbox back to them, and it 2-3 weeks they sent me my same xbox, only it was repaired. And that xbox is 5 years old and it now works great!
With my second xbox, (which is my brother's xbox–different console than the first) after getting the E74 message, I just turned my xbox off and let it cool off for 24 hours. Then next day I unplugged all of the cords (even the one connected the the electrical outlet) and plugged everything back in, and then message went away and everything worked fine! And that was 6 months ago and it still works great.
So, I would try letting it cool for a day or two and unplugging everything. If that doesn't work, I'm pretty sure your xbox is fried and you need to send it to Microsoft to get it fixed. I hope this helps!
