the best choice for u is to get the AVR Dragon it is a very cheap controller that has ISP, JTAG , PP and SPHV programing methods that is compatible with most of the ATMEL micro controllers
i got my AVR Dragon for $50 and i programed altos of controllers with it
or if u wanted to go something cheaper and compatible with the ATMEGA8
then get the ISP programmer it coasts around $20 or u could make ur own by flowing this site

It's just a different physical format, so the only difference is that you need a different adaptor to the HDMI cable – that may mean a mini-to-DVI and then DVI-to-HDMI although there are sure to be some straight through adaptors appearing soon. Oh, here you go
If you must do Mini displayport to VGA to S-Video, get this for the vga to s-video part:
S-Video however supports a much lower resolution than mini displayport, so you will end up with a somewhat blurry image no matter which VGA to S-Video converter you get. On movies it looks OK, but if you're wanting to read text its not good. Check out this guide with screenshots:

buy the mini displayport to hdmi you can only get it from the internet since it is not supported by apple but trust me I have one they work. I use mine on many different tv's and never had any problems. It will work I am sure.
