The symbol V measure voltage, and a single cell AAA, AA, C or D must be set to read voltage Level 2. I is the symbol of measuring current in amperes or sub-multiples. R is the symbol of resistance measurement, and (effectively) in progress. There are many multimeters in use, so that the brand needs and scales vary in the range of models.
