Recently, writers fear tragedies. It was not always so. Many ancient Greek games were tragedies. Many parts have been Shakespeare tragedies. For millennia, the tragedies were as common as the comedies … but in the last generation, he fell into disgrace.

In general, and certainly, there are two types of tragedies.

In the first type, the main character descends into evil, became power hungry, immoral choices, and ended up losing everything. Many tragedies Scarface Macbeth tell this story. The public is satisfied, the greedy nature got its due course.

In the second type, losing good. The triumph of evil. The villain wins. Once common, this tragedy is particularly strange, as if the writers are afraid.

This is particularly evident in Hollywood.

Consider the movie The Little Shop of Horrors. A tragic ending was filmed. Audrey II, the carnivorous plant eats characters and has conquered the world. The film is an uplifting story. But the study were opposed to the tragic end, and the filmmakers had to film a happy ending alternate.

Consider the movie Enemy at the Gates and the Avatar. The movies are in the second world war and colonialism, respectively. They are tragic themes, justify the end tragic, disturbing endings make powerful statements on war and imperialism. Instead, both films ended sweet with a false impression. Its happy ending felt compelled. Because these stories wavered in its natural habitat, tragic endings are less important than could.

The Godfather (the novel and film) an example of the tragedy is. Michael slowly disintegrates into corruption and violence, until the idealistic Michael is gone, replaced by a crime lord bitter. If "The Godfather" had avoided the tragedy, and offers a refuge happy ending where Michael finds redemption Would it still be the public?

Dickens finished A Tale of Two Cities with decapitation. What better way to finish a novel on the French Revolution the guillotine? Dickens wrote an epic poem about the horrors of the time. A happy ending would have been unfaithful to his subject, Framed readers, the novel and knocked out teeth.

Perhaps the most powerful (and difficult) is to end what I call the victory "tragic."

The Lord of the Rings ends in triumph – The Middle Earth is saved. But it's a tragic victory of Frodo always hurts, both physically and emotionally. Ender The game ends with a similar note – Ender defeats his enemies, but only at a terrible cost to himself and to humanity. In The Milano Runner, Amir finds redemption but the tragedy occurred, so that the characters are obsessed. My own novel, Firefly Island, also ends with the tragic victory – heroes win their war, but at a terrible cost, which was never recovered. These stories can haunt readers.

If you write a novel, play, story, writing, comics, or any other story … If your story is justified without fear tragic end. If the subject is tragic – a tale of war, colonialism, crime – a tragic end can make a powerful statement. Done right, take home his theme. saccharine endings are often poor for dark themes, and should not be imposed on those stories. Forced terminations Leave deceived public sentiment.

When I paint, often not looking for the shape of my subject, but its context: the way between the arm and hip or how the floor between the legs of the table. I can enter my drawing in the space around and behind it. Tragedies work the same way. They are not really about violence and death are about beauty and life. They represent the beauty illuminating the horror, and talk of happiness, by showing their loss.
