In fact, there is a place online that I bought my Elite for $ 240 refurbished. I swear to God this place still exists, and my Elite works and seems to be totally new. I mean seriously, an elite that runs $ 240 perfectly?! I had mine for time, and guess what, it still works perfectly! You are literally throwing your money if you buy it elsewhere. They sell you a perfectly renovated Elite has absolutely no scratches or dents in it at half price of what a regular costs. Most commercial video games are written in C++ , with other languages like Python used for scripting.
Java is used to write games for mobile (cell) phones. It is currently too slow to be used for the large console games. Having said that, each new version of Java is getting faster, so I'm betting that it will eventually replace C++ in years to come. HTML is essential for web based games. It might also be worth your while to learn Javascript as well. It is used to add interactivity to web pages and therefore for web games. It has syntax similar to java (hence its name) so you shouldn't find it hard to learn.
w3schools.com is a good place to learn javascript aswell as HTML and CSS because they set the standards for them.
For graphics, it depends how high end a game you want to make. Professional games companies use Autodesk 3ds max (3D Studio Max) or Maya for 3D modelling and photoshop for 2D graphics editing but they have teams of people to do this sort of thing. You can use whatever you feel comfortable with.

It was probably always safe to buy an Elite. The Elites all have the new Falcon chips that don't overheat, they've got the quieter disc drives, and they're new. They're not really new technology, as it's basically just a Pro 360 painted black with a bigger hard drive.
So yeah, the Elites and the new Pro's with HDMI ports are your safest bet.

If your new to photo editing you will only require Photoshop Elements 5.0, this is extremely useful but may take time to master. Photoshop CS is kinda only for professionals or semi-pro.
