Well this really depends on what kinds of games they are interested in.
Anyway, the Wii comes with everything that is required to start:
– 1 Wii remote / 1 Nunchuk
– The Wii system
– all the connection cables
– the sesnor bar
– Wii Sports game
I would recommend at the very least that you pick up an extra Wii Remote and Nunchuk (sold seperately) so that both of your children can play at the same time.
As for games, that really depends on your preferences, and what kinds of games your children like. I can however make some recommendations of games that I think you/they might enjoy.
– The Legend of Zelda "Twilight Princess" (1 – Player)
– Mario Strikers Charged (1 – 4 Players/ Wifi compatible)
– Mario Party 8 (1 – 4 players)
– Wii Play (1 – 4 player / comes with a Wii Remote)
– Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure (1 – player)
– Super Mario Galaxy (1 – 2 Players / available November 12)
These are some of the popular Wii titles; that I think are family friendly and can be picked up no problem. Now depending on what you think is/isn't appropriate for your children, I would also recommend:
– Trauma Center: Second Opinion &/or Trauma Center: New Blood – The Trauma Center series, originated on the Nintendo DS, and has been perfectly adapted for the Nintendo wii. The Trauma Center games, are very much like the old-skool game "operation" or at least they are based on a similar concept. Anyway, the games aren't graphic in their presentation, but rather, more on the cartoon side, so if no need to worry about being that.
The Trauma Center, games offer a unique, and very fun experience on the wii, that you and your children may enjoy. If you are interested in more detail on this kind of game you can find more detailed information here: As well as gameplay videos, which will give you a sample of what to expect when you start the game up:
– Metroid Prime Corruption (1 – Player) Rated T – Metroid Prime "Corruption" is a sci-fi, First Person Adventure, game where you control Samus Aran, the main protagnist of the Metroid series. Anyway, it is a shooter, and you do kill monsters, but it isn't explicit, and shouldn't be frightening, I think that it would be a good choice. However, if you are thinking about this title you may want to do a little more reading on it to decide whether or not it is something you would like yuor children to play.

Anyway, these are just a reflection of my thoughts regarding your question based on the information that you have provided. I could suggest more games, however, without knowing what you feel is or isn't appropriate for your children, it would be wrong of me to suggest titles that you might find unsuitable.
So in conclusion, you will at the very least require one extra Remote (which you can get bundled with the Wii play game), and one extra nunchuk. Everything else that you NEED comes pre-packaged with the system.
However, as you can see from my suggestions, there are many excellent options as far as game choices go if you would like to purchase an extra game or two.
