How to be more social at university

Going to college can be scary.

Away from their parents, family, home, friends, your girlfriend / boyfriend. Overload class, bedroom, dorm mates, freshman-15 and other factors can have a chilling effect on student social life.

Here's a quick guide to basic services and how to make friends and be a pop star social.

Join some clubs and groups

This must-brainer, but many people miss it.
Go to your home university. Clubs and / or research organizations.

Do you find it.
Find out how to join.
Some have suggested to look at the categories: social, leadership, art, Entertainment, Sports, Travel, etc. religious or political organizations in general, require a great deal of volunteer work. Do not put much effort to join the Club of Karate, but you have to put your ass to work too much to be part of young Republican volunteers (not paid for it). Some organizations require their members to more than reveal. Religious organizations are generally mission trips, community work and other things that you really do not want to do, unless you really believe in the case

Naturally Discover the social groups:

There really is no way this word all the best and easiest. Social groups are a part. A lot. End of story.

(Name of city) Young Professionals Network / Club

Almost everyone has a GREAT event. Check with your local Chamber of Commerce of the Department. Otherwise, Google. Some require that you are 21, others not. It is the professional organization and you will meet many people seriously. They do a lot of fun too.

Add Facebook friends of your classes.
Talk to people in your class, if you have Facebook or MySpace to add. They also join to groups in your LAN; Add to the people of these groups to their friends list, tell you to be social and make friends. Try to join groups that do things. "1 million users against XYZ causes "probably unnecessary compared to" Your Name College Wakeboard Club

Try to attend events public. Many events are posted on Facebook. Also do not forget the special events page of the case and the promotion of student events and other activities forward to the social network advertising.

Also, people tend to invite their Facebook friends list of parties, concerts or other activities. Try to attend.

Distribute flyers for events
Talking to a bar or a band if they need help the distribution of flyers. (Make sure the tape is really good). This will help you look a promoter of a large head and expose you to more people. It's easy. Even some bars Clubs you may pay.

You can also get these concerts Craiglist.org (Find your city).

Almost all college bars promotions run on the day of the week. Go to a bar manager / owner and offering to distribute their "special promotional "flyer for a few pitchers of beer. In general, managers do not bother me covering bar tab if you want to run on campus to distribute flyers. Some they might even pay, but not bet on it.

Note that making a few pitchers of beer on the house looks very good in front of his friends (And also the opposite sex;))

Talk with developers club, ask them if they need help distributing pamphlets on campus. Usually, they offer little goose or a bottle without a VIP pass for you and your friends (the promotional items are often a dozen sponsors of the club). By course gives you the opportunity to meet people.

Fraternity / sorority. Do not rush anything. (Did you get the game word?) If you are a freshman chill years. … Here's why:

The reason is, you need to know someone who already in the fraternity respectable Otherwise, only one of the bid-wanna-be "and never an auction. fraternities in general, those who are Popular Do not just accept all that is precipitated. And do not settle for less respected Greek house. The fraternity is for life. Make informed decisions.

Know your situation in Greece first, then rush to your second year.

Heck C in the center of local students (Or a student center) and search for events, concerts, social gatherings. Most of them are the events sponsored by the University, and is free or ridiculously low. Invite bedrooms. Free concerts are lame but fun to attend. Depending on the size of the college you can get free tickets to major schemes such as White Stripes, Busta Rhymes, Jeff Dunham, etc. These guys like to make a program for a cause (such as fighting breast cancer or world peace).

Consider the possibility of living in a dormitory, both for the social support aspect and appearance. It's nice to be in the range of classes and parties. Bedrooms as uncomfortable as looks are very social and will be exposed to the variety of people and personalities. Enjoy your first year unwise, without paying for utilities, food (get a meal plan) and disorders of the owner.

Coming to study groups for classes, the university is not all celebration. You have to pass their classes. It is much easier to make friends in study groups, because, as the issuance of common stock. In addition, the studio sessions are very useful.

Try to find a part time job near campus. Working in a cafe or a library can give you the opportunity to interact with people all day. If it is a popular café that most students attend, you'll quickly make friends with the regulars. More than a job to save extra money in your pocket for fun.

Buy the textbook at least one bookstore. During the quarter per semester from all the shops are manual closed with people. Like it or not, is standing in line anyway, what are the chances you can start a conversation with a Cutie few friends or make new partner?

Virtually all schools have a major online social networks, where many students do not hang IND F and join him. You have to Google around, but you can make friends that way. Uloop.com is good if your school is facing.

Join if you guys have your school Uloop.com also check (JuicyCampus) www.juicycampus.com garbage and concerts, not really intended to help meet people, but something to kill time online. It's fun and you learn interesting "facts" about your friends … ;)

ALWAYS ask your friends what they do in social weekend, if they say nothing or they are lying or losers. Do not hang out with liars or losers. But if we are invited to all they do, go Spend time with these guys.

Focus on student retention and the party. Do not overload the years their teaching load first Instead, get an idea of the university. Even if you just meet full-time status much better to make friends in the beginning of their degree of 2-3 years with a double, and half en route to their owners, no friends or girlfriend. The social life is as important as academic life. Balance and you'll be in good shape.

Go to the gym. It's amazing how many people you can find while working.

Go to sports games and events. Definitely show your spirit. Even if it's a wrestling match. Small sporting events can be easier and cheaper to get tickets for, and better to meet people.

I am sure you have at least one or two people go out with you, invite consulting, bars, discos, or something to do around the campus. Going Places by itself is not funny. Even if your sleeping partner is better to have someone with you to be alone.

Take a walk on campus. At my school, students studying outside the oval of the State of Ohio. Or play frisbee. It is a very social campus, not all of the University is in the same way, but finding a place where people spend time outside.

sport. Even for a club.

Take a yoga class or art class. You make the choice anyway, so take some thing that can interact with others.

In general, the Popular Party will be easy course in it when you are a sophomore, must have thought that the courses are easier and more difficult. General compulsory courses count for nothing other than their specialty nobody cares about them, to be the easiest to place, and seek more classy. His GPA only benefit from the collection easier for the option class.

Do not drink and drive. I felt the need to throw that in there.

Hope this helps. The university can be very difficult and scary, do not worry, okay.

Thank you

I am a high school teacher. I get lots of requests for recommendations for colleges from my students.

    Here are suggestions.
    1) Put the request in writing. It does not have to be a formal letter to the teacher, but in our busy days, a casual "Hey Mr. G, can you write a recommendation for me?" is easily forgotten.

    2) With the request, include the form if there is one. I usually only write "see attached" on such forms anyway. I will write my recommendations on my high school's letterhead.

    3) I will ask the student if they want it to a specific institution or just a general one. If they need a specific institution or two, I do not mind as it is a simple thing to change as I type my letters on a computer.

    4) Is students want general recommendations, I will actually print 3 or 4 of them and sign them separately so the student has 3 or 4 "originals." no need to copy. If they find they need more, I save my letters to disk. They just come by and I print and sign another.

Good Luck applying to college. Don't sweat the small stuff like who to ask for these letters. Teachers are usually more than happy to write them for good students…now if you were not a good students….LOL
