what your talking about is called a flash cart. there are severla kinds of flashcarts that do the same thing but have different features. the best cart on the market right now is called the cyclods, followed by the supercard dsone and then the acekard 2. and of course cyclods is the most expensive one of the lot at about $54us, followed by supercard dsone at around $25us and lastly acekard 2 for about $13us.
you can get the cyclods at realhotstuff.com but as for the other two i recommend going to dealextreme.com, since it's the cheapest place around, but it doesn't sell the cyclods. you will also need a micro sd to put the games on. each game can range from 8MBin size to 256MB, so i recommend either getting a 2GB card or 4GB.
for 2GB cards kingston(japan) are the best brand but be careful when buying this brand because there is a Taiwanese version og the card and is very bad/slow. for 4GB cards it's best to look for any card that is at least class 4 or higher.
it works by loading arbitrary code from the card to allow you to play downloaded games from the internet.

it means that if you buy the cyclods you will also get a 4GB micrsd with it as well. however, i seriously don't recommend getting it from that site unless you really trust them. i recommended realhotstuff and dealextreme because heaps of people i know use it and have always had good customer services. if you're gonna go for the cyclods then you need to get the latest firmware from
you need to check the site weekly for updates on the firmware since new games might not work on older firmwares. once you have the flashcart and the microsd there's no need to get anything else unless you want to play GBA games in which you need a slot 2 device like the ezflash 3in1. if you want to watch movies than you need a converter called batchdpg, and a homebrew called moonshell. if you want to listem to music than moonshell will also do that for you. you can get moonshell here

In high school I did a work experience program (for school credit) at a local computer repair shop. It was done for no pay of course, but I learned quite a bit.
I'd recommend going to a local computer shop (not the shain stores like Staples or Future Shop, but a Ma and Pop shop) and and ask if you can do some job shadowing once a week or so on a volunteer basis. I imagine someone will want the assistance.
I learned a lot over just 6 months at the place I worked at, and I only put in about 1 hr twice a week.
