Reference angles are the basic angles in quadrant I that allow you to figure out all the other angles in the other quadrants. Angles such as 0, 30, 45, 60, and 90 are reference angles.
The coordinates are (cos, sin), where cosine corresponds to the X-coordinate and sine corresponds to the Y-coordinate.
360 degrees = 2pi radians. With that, you can set up ratios to find the corresponding radian measure for a given angle.
For instance, with an angle of 0, you would have 0 radians (0/360 = 0/2pi). The coordinate would be (cos 0, sin 0) = (1,0)
An angle such as 45 degrees would correspond to pi/4 radians (45/360 = pi/4 radians). The coordinate would be (cos pi/4, sin pi/4) = ((sqrt2)/2, (sqrt2)/2. If you are using a calculator to find the coordinates, make sure the calculator is either in radian mode or in degree mode, whichever you need. If you're not sure, most calculators will be in degree mode by default.
Once you have done these calculations for all the reference angles, you will have completed the first quadrant.
Next, you will have to calculate the corresponding angles in the other quadrants. for instance, 45 degrees in the first quadrant will correspond to 135 degrees in the second quadrant, 225 degrees in the third quadrant, and 315 degrees in the fourth quadrant. 30 degrees corresponds to 120 in QII, 210 degrees in QIII, and 300 degrees in QIV.
Once you've determined the corresponding angles, it's just a matter of changing the signs. Notice that quadrants I and II both have positive Y-valuse, but QI will have positive X-values and QII will have negative X-values. So to change from a QI reference angle to its corresponding angle in QII, just change the X-value to negative in it's coordinate.
Let's take 45 degrees again. We've already determined that the coordinate for 45 degrees is ((sqrt2)/2, (sqrt2)/2). To get the coordinate for 135 degrees, just change the x-value to negative so that we have
(-(sqrt2)/2, (sqrt2)/2).
For QIII, notice that both it's X-value and Y-value are negative, so to get a coordinate in QIII, just change the coordinate for the reference angle to negatives.
For QIV, the X-values is positive, but the Y-value is negative.
