Innovators

Innovator-(noun)-A person who presents a new way of doing something: One who renews or creates a new style.

There have been many men who loved the game of the NFL. Men like Vince Lombardi, the great motivator come to mind. Men like Hank Stram and considered. No conversation about innovation and change as the NFL game can be played not to mention coaches like Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, and Cleveland Brown head coach Paul Brown.

In this article, I chose to highlight three of the NFL all time innovators. George Halas, Tom Landry and Bill Walsh.

These three men have made progress and changes NFL game in that play still resonate in the present and continuing right on into the future.

George Halas

George Halas was probably the most important person that has been associated with the franchise of the NFL Chicago Bears. Starting as an employee of AE Staley Decatur III, Halas played for football team of the company. It Halas who chose the colors of his alma mater of the orange and navy blue as the colors of team uniforms.

After losses E. Augusto financial founding team Staley handed control of the team to Halas in 1921.In 1922 the name was changed to "Bears" in honor of the Cubs, who left the Bears to play their games at Wrigley Field.

Not only play for the Bears Halas, also managed the team and sold the tickets. More incredible, Halas, including team coach. After 10 years Halas retired from coaching and playing. In 1933, Halas was back in training for 10 seasons.

In the 1930s, Halas (with the help of the University of Chicago coach Clark Shaughnessy) T have the training system, which is a new style dominant and helped the Bears win the championship game in 1940. All NFL teams began to copy Halas and his system. With the Bears to repeat as champions in 1941, the 40 is known for the Bears to designate as "monsters of Midway.

Midway Monsters

Finally Halas retired from training after the 1967 season. When he was the oldest coach in the league. He continued his bears as principal and managed operations team until his death in 1983 at 88 years.

Halas have had both negative and positive impact in the NFL football from segregation. In 1930, Halas refused to sign players bear black. Finally Halas had a change of heart and helped black players in the league. Halas signed quarterback Willie pitcher who, playing with the Bears became in the first quarter Negro Leagues.

Halas' innovative showed the whole league. His teams were the first to adopt the practice sessions. Also daily were the first team to analyze the films of other teams. Halas team was also the first to place assistant coaches in the press boxes where you could see the team as a whole. One method is still used today. Halas team has also been the first to broadcast the games on radio.

Perhaps the contribution more important to the league George Halas was a strong supporter of the first "revenue sharing." Halas offered to share revenues with television crews large bear small towns because he believed that the league has done but it would be his team.

George Halas record 63 years as owner, 40 years of coaching, 324 wins and eight NFL titles made him a founding member Hall of Fame, which incidentally is located in the George Halas Drive. The Chicago Bears today for yet Halas honor, with the initials of GSH on the left sleeve.

Tom Landry

Lifecycle Tom Landry was a little better known than Halas. I mean everyone knows "hat." Born in Mission, Texas and studied at the University of Texas. Like a shining star defensive defensive in bright.Playing Landry AAC for the Yankees in 1949, 1950, Landry moved to New York Giants. In 1954, he was elected even as a pro-set. He played until 1955 as an assistant coach the last two (54 and 55). Landry needs of his career with 32 interceptions in 80 games only.

In 1956, Tom Landry became the defensive coordinator the New York Giants against the future Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi was the offensive coordinator.Together appeared in three games of the NFL championship won in 1956.

In 1960, Landry became the first head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, where he remained for 29 seasons. After starting the 1960 season with a 0-11-1 record, Landry went on to win two Super Bowl, five NFC titles and 13 division titles in an all-time record 270-178-6. Oh, and did I mention Landry, 20 consecutive winning seasons (1966-1985), a record for the least impressive.

When it came to innovation Tom Landry was ahead of its time and the "Flex Defense" was his natural baby. With eight holes along the line of scrimmage, defending traditional control had four defensive linemen had to address two gaps. The differences between the control center and the guard and the guard and address. The emphasis was on power. Remove the block, find the ball and then make play.Landry had a left and right tackles to line up in places along the line of scrimmage nose to nose with blockers. The front left and right aligned a melee meter backstroke, which opened its doors to the best director lanes.Landry then asked his supporters to the front to control a gap each Except for the linebacker. I had to control two, Flex gave away control from the point of attack, allowing everyone to follow.

As Landry got Flex best players has become the famous "Last Judgement" before.

With its offensive Landry in the famous "Shotgun", where the change could be five feet deep to allow see the holes in the defense and, possibly, himself. Designed primarily as a game in progress in the quarter, skillfully transformed Landry in a pass from quarterback Mobile Rodger Staubach. The Hail Mary pass from Staubach to Drew Pearson beat the Minnesota Vikings in the playoffs, she took the gun. Twenty-five years later every NFL team has a gun in his book of the game, thanks to Tom Landry.

Landry, even writing in innovative ways. Instead the normal Short, stocky, players, Landry liked tall, thin players have made great strides and may cover more ground in the race happens. Once again 25 years later All NFL teams are aiming to change search engines in a manner similar to before the power of the NBA.

Landry was also the first to take control cars quality. Ermal Quality Coach Allen would play and watch movies on the trends of the opposing team to give Landry and Cowboys edge. Today, every NFL team has a quality control coach and many have two.

Besides being a man of integrity and class Tom Landry will always be known as a champion of the NFL Today, almost always the first name mentioned in any discussion of the innovators in the NFL.

Bill Walsh

Simply known as "The Genius" Bill Walsh offense innovations simply said .. "Everything changed. Walsh was best known as the creator of the infringement" West Coast. Violation proof that if the property was almost full.

Walsh began his career in football as a means to an end State St. Jose in 1952-53. In 1954 he began his coaching career at Washington High School in Fremont California. Soon after Walsh was hired as an assistant coach for the future legend head coach Marv Levy to California.

Walsh moved to Stanford before beginning his professional coaching career with the Oakland Raiders and the AFL in 1966. In 1968, Walsh joined the Cincinnati Bengals, where he worked for legendary coach Paul Brown. It was with the Bengals that Walsh took complete control of an offense.

Walsh begain working on a project that uses the backdrop of a short, simple routes receiver. Walsh played these systems on several occasions during practice. These schemes years later became known as "The West Coast Offense," a name Walsh never liked.

Walsh hated to run the ball. He prefers a game of air flow. After a discussion of Paul Brown, Walsh left the Bengals another brief stay at Stanford and San Diego Chargers. In 1979, he accepted the work of rebuilding San Francisco 49ers. In Walsh first season as head coach his record was 2-14. In the early 49's in 1979 developed a young quarterback named Joe Montana the starting job Walsh. It was a match made in heaven. In 1981, the 49ers had their first championship.

In the 49's Walsh said Ronnie Lott, Charles Haley, Rodger Craig and Jerry Rice in the great Walsh that he considered a father.

The number of successful coaches who came from the Bill Walsh tree reads like a who's who of NFL coaching great. George Seifert, Mike Holgram, Dennis Green, Sam Wyche, Ray Rhodes and Bruce Coslet. Many Walsh spent his assistants meet other coaches, including Mike Shanahan, Jon Gruden, Brian Billick, Andy Reid, Pete Carroll, Gary Kubiak, Steve Mariucci and Jeff Fisher.

Walsh also created the Minority Coaching Fellowship Program in 1987.This program helped minorities get a job coaching in the dominated position by whites. The program was later adopted a league wide.

Walsh has compiled a record of 102-63-1 with the 49ers. He has won 10 of his 14 postseason games with six division titles. Walsh was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1993, largely because he was a teacher with a blackboard and chalk. I can think of many men who no longer are shaped more football in the 21st century.

In conclusion, I would add that if the exploration of these three men I've come to see how each of them embody the spirit of innovation. Each different ways, but each of them saw the need to take what had already appeared at the point and is much better. Was it really a pleasure for me to write this article because it forces me to delve into me to see if I have the spirit of innovation.
