When the leg is straight, the ITB lies in front of the epicondyle, flexion of the knee the ITB actually happening on the surface of the lateral epicondyle. If the ITB becomes inflamed, the friction caused by this movement is very painful, especially when the doctor is the compression of the ITB in the bone. Stretching, strengthening and monitoring of instability are key components of successful rehabilitation of this common injury.
