If I am understanding your question…which is a wee bit vague, there might be a couple of possibilities going on here – - -
1) You never mentioned the name of your chess software. Share THAT info. with me, and I will be able to instantanesouly clear up your problem.
2) If this is chess software that is playing a regular [non-variant] game of chess, then it is definitely a glitch in the software. The maximum number of squares that a pawn may move is two on the players first turn….PERIOD. AND, the opposing pawn would then have to wait to capture your pawn, EVEN AFTER MOVING TWO SQUARES FORWARD.
3) This might be a chess VARIANT. In this case, the pawn may very well be allowed to move three squares forward, and then capture [or NOT capture] – - – although offhand, I cannot think of a chess variant that contains that option.
So, check your software, resubmit your question, and then I will be able to help you more.
