People like pets for sure — and if you can learn to draw from photos, that can work for you. And horses, birds, animals of all sorts, lighthouses, etc. can be pretty popular. But everybody has different ideas of what they like, so doing just ONE thing is not the way to go. You need to do some research on etsy itself, by looking at your probable competition. See who is selling art and what is selling by looking at their "SALES" (Under 'Other Items' on the RIGHT side of their shops).
Etsy is a great site. I sell there myself. But you need to understand that sales are NOT guaranteed there. Many people on the site go weeks between sales. I often do myself. Some never sell at all, or only very, very seldom. And it takes WORK to sell there, just like any place else. You might need to blog, tweet, facebook, and use the etsy Forums to get yourself out there — and that takes time and effort. So, here is what you need to ask yourself. Do you NEED the money NOW? Then while it is a great site, etsy may not be the place to go, because it is not a sure thing. But if you like to draw, want to draw — and don't mind making a bit of money from it along the way, maybe — then it is definitely a place to go to do that. That's what I do. I weave miniature baskets because I LOVE to do that — and I sell them on etsy, when they sell and gladly accept the money. But I surely do not COUNT on getting sales to pay the bills!
